Tonya Palmer, RN, MSN, CCM
Tonya began her nursing career as an LPN with Continuum Pediatric Nursing as a field staff nurse providing private duty nursing to pediatric patients in their homes. Tonya worked as a field staff nurse while completing her RN BSN program at Hampton University. After completing her RN BSN program Tonya remained as a PRN field staff nurse at Continuum Pediatric Nursing and also worked full time as a Special Care Nursery Nurse at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. Even with this challenging schedule Tonya decided to complete her schooling by getting a Masters Degree in Nursing Leadership and Management from Walden University. After completing her Masters Tonya returned to a full time role with Continuum Pediatric Nursing as the Assistant Directors of Nursing. Tonya spent several years in this role before transitioning to the Optima Family Care (OFC) case management team with Optima Health. Once a member of the OFC case management team Tonya quickly moved up within the company and is now the Manager of Government Programs for the clinical care services division. Tonya’s journey from LPN to RN, BSN to RN, MSN illustrates the unlimited possibilities for nurses today. Tonya truly enjoys teaching and guiding nurses as well as being an advocate for members and families.
