Sofia Meier, CPNP
Sofia Meier, pediatric nurse practitioner, has had the privilege of working at the Barbara Davis Center (BDC) for 5 years now as a pediatric provider. Sofia received her Master’s Degree in Nursing from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Sofia manages the continuous glucose monitor program for the Barbara Davis Center including both-diagnostic and personal devices. She is responsible for continuing education on CGM technology (including devices, software, date interpretation and current guidelines) for all BDC staff and providers. Sofia’s expertise in CGM data interpretation allows her to maximize patient interactions resulting in leading the clinic in daily patient visits. Her peers also look to her for advice on making insulin adjustments based on CGM data and helping patients achieve glycemic goals. Sofia travels to 3 BDC affiliated outreach clinics where she shares her expertise in diabetes and current medical devices with children who would not normally have access to this type of care. Sofia also manages the technology education for the staff at her outreach clinics. This involves training all staff members for patient interactions on the latest technology and medical devices on the market. In addition to Sofia’s many contributions to the care of children living with diabetes, one of her greatest accomplishments in the community was the approval of Dexcom for Children with Colorado Medicaid. Sofia spent many tireless hours working with her Dexcom territory business manager to get this approval and as a result, children with CO Medicaid are now able to access Dexcom through a federally funded program (EPSDT). The Barbara Davis Center has now prescribed Dexcom CGM for over 400 children on Medicaid who had no access to it previously.
