Kathy O’Malley came to the Chicago Tribune in 1979 as a secretary (that was before administrative assistants!) to the entertainment columnist Aaron Gold. After his death in 1983, she was promoted to co-writing a column (INC) featuring political, business and entertainment news, and also eventually became a features writer for the Tribune. Her superficial duties during that time included covering the Oscars and Emmy Awards for several years. In 1989, she joined WGN Radio as a talk show cohost, and left the Tribune in 1992 to focus on radio exclusively. She and radio partner Judy Markey remained with WGN until 2017.
