Bernice Murphy, RN, BSN, CCM
Berni Murphy has devoted herself to nursing for over 30 years in various parts of the country. She began her career on medical floors in both Pennsylvania and Arizona where she perfected the multitude of skills that come with working in a 22 bed rural hospital.
After moving to Florida she received her BS in Nursing from Barry University in 1992 and made the switch to home health care, working her way up to supervisory roles. During this period she also found the time to be an Adjunct Faculty Instructor for Indian River Community College where she taught in the LPN and CNA programs. In 1997 she found her true calling when she became a case manager, starting in the insurance division of a third party administrator.
She moved into the hospital side of case management in 2004 with Hospital Corporation of America, her current employer. While starting in a 300 bed facility, she soon returned to her rural roots and today works and lives in Lake City, Florida at a facility which just recently expanded to 100 beds.
Berni has been involved with the Northeast Florida chapter of CMSA for many years and has held a variety of offices from Education Coordinator to President. She is an avid competitor, having completed seven half-marathons and innumerable charity runs. She also enjoys Square Dancing and volunteers with the local Guardian Ad Litum program. And finally she loves spending time with her husband, four children, 10 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
